Cayo Guillermo is part of an archipelago consisting of hundreds of coral cays and small islands and called Jardines del Rey (King’s Gardens). It's located off the northern coast of the main island of Cuba (Atlantic Ocean side), in the central province of Ciego de Avila. The Jardines del Rey archipelago is itself part of a larger chain of islands called Sabana-Camaguey which include about 2,500 keys. Also part of the Jardines del Rey is a small sub-archipelago called “Cayos de Villa Clara” which is located west of Cayo Coco/Guillermo, and includes 3 other popular resort islands: Cayo Santa Maria, Cayo Ensenachos and Cayo Las Brujas.
Why Cayo Guillermo?
Years ago, people used to enjoy nude sunbathing in the area called Playa Pilar, but everything changed after the first hotel opened in this area, Iberostar Playa Pilar. The nude beach was located on the west site of Playa Pilar. There were no services, palapas or shelters. There are now two hotels in this area, and you cannot be nude on that beach anymore.
But there is hope! There is a tiny beach called Playuelas (200 meters long) located in the central area of Cayo Guillermo, west of Playa del Medio. There is only one hotel who has access of Playa Playuelas, the MGM Resorts, Muthu Rainbow Beach. It is the first official adult only, gay-friendly » hotel in the Jardines del Rey. This hotel has access of two beaches ... The main one : Playa del Medio (700-meters long, shared with its neighbor the Muthu Imperial Cayo Guillermo) and the second one : Playa Playuelas that could be the perfect place to be Clothing Optional.
We have contacted to the hotel about this topic and, at this moment, they do not know if there will be a clothing-optional beach.
